ADORABLE! I felt like a child (after that soul sucking downer that was Observe and Report) and was lulled into this wonderful sense of calm. It’s mindless and pretty tame and silly and I loved it a lot.
You get what the title says: there are monsters. There are aliens. They fight! And it’s all kinds of awesome. Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, and Hugh Laurie’s characters of the original monsters are great and funny (and I’d like a little plushie of Bob, the blue blob that Rogen voices because OH MY GOD TOO CUTE). The jokes for the adults are really fresh and funny and topical-there was a reference to a movie that came out years ago that flew below the radar for most of the parents though: the movie was showing how long it was in post because of that line. That was sort of a down note. Rainn Wilson was also a high point. As was Paul Rudd. Ok, let me just say that the cast was awesome.
You’re not too cool for a childrens’ film. We’re all going to go see Up when it comes out, and though I haven’t seen Wall-E, I’m sure 90% of you have seen it and cried. Disney/Pixar owns your soul, and you know what, so does Dreamworks. This was great and you’ll love it so go.
And who doesn’t love 3D? Let’s be serious.
