An interesting little film, mostly because of the first 10 to 15 minutes. We open on a curtain going up, and then a flashback which later comes into question as to its truthfulness. It’s a film of questions and very few answers, but it is expertly directed by Hitchcock and the lines are certainly very funny.
The Marlene Ditrich musical numbers were funny/awkward as well, and I am not sure if I was supposed to find them amusing or not.
The ending is really quite good (if not really violent for 1950.) Some of the shots are absolutely unsettling (background and foreground in focus? MY EYES DON’T WORK THAT WAY, SIR.) It was a good movie for sure, but it is not the best that I’ve seen of his thusfar.
