About a half hour longer than it needed to be with a a tacked on propaganda ending, I found that after a string of really wonderful Hitchcock movies, this one left a lot to be desired. I can’t really write an in depth review on this, as I am ashamed to say that I fell asleep twice during the screening of this film. It’s Hitchcock’s commentary on a world about to go to war, and while that is an absolutely admirable thing to make a movie about it did not hold my interest in the slightest. I found the movie to be very dry and hard to get through. If I were watching it in my room and not in class, I would have taken an intermission midway through and came back to it.It’s not a bad movie at all, visually it holds up quite well, but towards the end it didn’t feel like a Hitchcock film to me anymore. A certain event in the final third of the movie didn’t need to happen in the opinion of this film snob.I’d never tell someone not to see a movie, but I’m just saying that to me it felt longer than it actually was. Be prepared to be in it for the long haul.
