This is another great, suspensful tale that Hitchcock has proven time and time again that he can do with ease. The story at this point for me is a bit tired (maybe it has to do that I’m watching a film like this every other day haha) but this is really where I think the direction instead of the story gets a chance to shine.Of course I’m speaking of the final moments of the film that take place on the statue of liberty. While my classmates gasped I was sitting with my mouth agape wondering how exactly he did that. The perspective shots were ASTOUNDING. And sure, the situation is a bit much, but if you can suspend your disbelief and just look at the film for a few minutes, it’s one of the most amazing effects I’ve ever seen on screen. It was very unsettling to think that so many years ago something so great could be done practically, but now we spend so much money on CGI effects that end up just looking hokey and dated after a few years.
