What makes the Saw films interesting is that they are probably the most moral horror film franchise ever. What made this one boring is that it was too moral, too preachy, and even though it was only an hour and a half long, I felt like it could be 20 minutes shorter. After 2 other Saw films under his belt, Darren Lynn Bouseman burned out on this one, and the effects of the quick cuts were tired and boring. Everything about this one was stale, but I want to see the whole franchise (Saw II remains my favorite). I did like that Donnie Walhberg was able to take time out of his schedule to be in this one. He’s a terrible genre actor: he’s not right for horror AT ALL, but his turn in Band of Brothers is awesome, so I can’t really hate on him too much.
Honestly, I don’t have much to say about this one because it didn’t hold my interest. I rarely paid attention till the very end. Mostly I was happy about Donnie Wahlberg.
You can really tell that Leigh Whannel had nothing to do with it. I don’t have high hopes for Saw V.
