This movie is probably my favorite of the films we’ve watched this semester in this class. We were either going to watch this one or Rebecca which I guess I’ll just have to see another time. I was so happy with this choice of film. Most of the class had never seen it before. It was fun. It was suspenseful and funny and frustrating (some of the characters must have been blind not to see the flaws of their dearest Uncle Charlie) and all these elements made it Great, something I want to own and watch again without the twitterings of my classmates to make me upset.
There was nothing about this movie that wasn’t entertaining, but it was also incredibly interesting from a filmmaking standpoint. If you’re looking for it, the doubliing motif hits you on the head and then beats you repeatedly for close to two hours (see what Hitchcock did there?). I found the them of the double so interesting that I think I want to do my term paper on it. A draft of that might end up on this filter.
Unlike my Woody Allen class last semester, where I was so familiar with his work going into it and loved him beforehand, I was not at all exposed to much Hitchcock. I’m finding that my enjoyment of his work just grows with every film I see. See Shadow of a Doubt. I do believe it’s a masterpiece.
