The Hangover is about exactly what it sounds like. It’s about 4 guys who go to Vegas for the most epic bachelor party ever and when they wake up in the morning, there is a tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the closet, and no memory of the night before. Oh yeah and now there’s only 3 of them.
It’s Swingers meets Saving Private Ryan meets Ocean’s 11. It’s borderline brilliant in how tasteless it can be and how unlikable some of the characters are. It’s not innovative in the way that it’s shot but it is brilliant in the way it was cast. There are really no “above the title” stars in this movie (well, Bradley Cooper is one in my head but I doubt many people know him from Alias anymore and rather just know him as the guy that played the asshole in Wedding Crashers) and that helps add to the everyman quality of it. These aren’t movie stars (Bradley Cooper is really handsome though. Like, rugged handsome. I’m gonna shut up now) these are just guys, looking to have a good time that got into a huge mess instead.
Watching them get into the mess is funny, watching them get out of the mess is funnier. There is even an interesting use of a deux ex machina at the very end.The stand out of the cast is not Bradley Cooper (unless you’re talking about looks alone because—shutting up, shutting up), it’s Zach Galifianakis. He’s basically playing himself, and if, when the dvd comes out they reveal that all of his lines were improved, I will not be suprised at all. There is no other person that could have played Alan as well as Zach. Alan is the laugh.
See the movie even if you don’t like dumb comedies. I hate dumb comedies, but I loved this. The laughs are there and you will have a good time.
